'Lest We Forget'

Today the students of The De La Salle Academy honour those soldiers that gave their lives for their country.

At 11:00am all students and staff assembled on the yard. Standing in absolute silence, students listened carefully as Mr Hudson recited 'In Flanders Field' (see below) whilst Mr Wallace played 'The Flowers of the Forest' on the bagpipes.

Many of our students who are part of the Combined Cadet Force led the ceremony for the laying of the wreath.

Students have also taken part in creating a display of poppies in the Heartspace of the Academy to represent our support for Remembrance Sunday where our students will represent us.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
